Markus Bockmuehl teaches in biblical and early Christian studies and has
also served as Associate Head of the University's Humanities Division (with
responsibility for Graduate Studies).  Prior to his arrival in Oxford in
2007 he was a Professor at the Universities of St. Andrews and Cambridge,
having previously taught at Regent College and the University of British
Columbia. His current research concerns early Christian eschatology and its
relationship to political aspiration. Recent books include Seeing the Word:
Refocusing New Testament Study (Baker 2006), Paradise in Antiquity: Jewish
and Christian Views (Cambridge 2010, ed. with G.G. Stroumsa) and Simon Peter
in Scripture and Memory (Baker 2012). A canonical guide to the Apocryphal
Gospels is expected to appear next year (Westminster John Knox 2016).
