Mark W. Elliott was born and schooled in Glasgow, took a law degree at Oxford, pursued ministerial qualifications and a Bachelors of Divinity at Aberdeen, then went on to doctoral studies in Cambridge, that would lead to a PhD in 1997 followed by publication in book form in 2000, The Song of Songs and Christology in the Early Church (Mohr Siebeck). After lecturing positions at Nottingham and Liverpool Hope and a Humboldt-funded period of study at Heidelberg then Munich, he is now Reader in Church History at the University of St Andrews and Head of the School of Divinity. He has recently published Providence Perceived (De Gruyter, 2015). His interests are in theology informed by the bible and the history of biblical
